The following is a list of software projects maintained in the NetBSD (and/or pkgsrc) source tree to consider for individual distribution for third-party use. Some of the following software is already distributed standalone.

Debian/Ubuntu use GPL'ed dash, which is derived from NetBSD ash.
## bmake/pmake
Already provided by Linux distributions (like Fedora and Debian).
## calendar
## editline/libedit
Alternative to GNU Readline. Already provided by Linux distributions (such as Fedora) and used in various projects, e.g. PostgreSQL.
## inetd
## ipsec-tools / racoon
User-space IPsec tools for various IPsec implementations.
## iscsi-target
Packaged by Fedora.
## libatomic
Atomic operations for many architectures.
## libc
Alternative to glibc and uClibc. Used by MINIX3 and partially by Android.
## libcontainer
Red-black tree, patricia-tree, radix trees.
## libhash
Collection of hash functions.
## libprop/proplib
Property Container Object Library. PropertyList aka plist API.
## libsaslc
Simple Authentication and Security Layer client library.
## makefs
Included in MirBSD and packaged by Debian.
## mtree

Also consider NetBSD Userland which would be a crunchgen'd suite of common utilities as a more featureful (working) alternative to BusyBox.
Other software to consider but currently have an upstream is bozohttpd, dhcpcd, and openresolv.
