 ## Guide migration  ## The new NetBSD guide

 I'm currently trying to migrate the NetBSD guide to the wiki. The relevant  The NetBSD guide, as well as its contents, is outdated. Of course there's
 files are these ones:  current documentation as well in it, but many parts of it are outdated.
   The question is: What is the future of the NetBSD guide?
  * ccd
  * cgd  Should we continue having something ordered by *book chapters*? Or should we
  * chap-exinst  make it completely unordered with many howtos inside a wiki, which is also
  * cons  printable, but not in a useful order?
  * dns
  * edit  In my opinion, we should continue having a set of articles where the basic
  * inst-media  subsystems of NetBSD are explained, but in the wiki. It shouldn't be too
  * inst  difficult to create a book from that if you want to.
  * linux  From all these subsystems, imho, the following topics should be covered:
  * lvm
  * mail  System basics:
  * net-intro
  * net-practice   * Installation
  * net-services   * Security (CGD, PGP, veriexec, PAM)
  * pam   * Disk handling (GPT, disklabel, MBR), creating filesystems, handling USB
  * print     flashdrives, automounting, CDs
  * rmmedia   * RAIDs with raidframe
    * LVM
 Already done:   * Audio setup
    * Keeping a NetBSD installation up-to-date
  * audio   * The rc system, as compared to systemd and SysV
  * bluetooth   * Editing with vi
  * boot   * X setup, graphics drivers, console drivers
  * build   * Backups with dump/restore and other options
  * carp   * Printing (with cups?)
  * index
  * inetd  Networking:
  * intro
  * fetch   * Basic network setup
  * kernel   * inetd setup
  * misc   * Bluetooth
  * raidframe   * DNS server setup and related issues
  * rc   * Firewalling (describing *all* or linking guide of others)
  * tuning
  * updating  Building NetBSD:
  * upgrading
  * veriexec   * Building the system with `build.sh`
  * x   * Configuring the kernel
    * Fetching sources, staying -current
 I started working on it in `guide/`, though the original proposal
 was to store it in `guide/netbsd`. However, whoever wants to change the  Using extra packages:
 directory can do so.
    * Emulating Linux
    * Using pkgsrc
    * Using binary packages, using pkgin
    * Installing a desktop environment
    * Things to remember (e.g., no mplayer)
