Due to the multitude of supported machine architectures NetBSD has to deal with
many different partitioning schemes. To deal with them in a uniform way
(without imposing artificial restrictions that are not enforced by the
underlying firmware or bootloader partitioning scheme) wedges have been
designed.

While the kernel part of wedges is mostly done (and missing parts are easy to
add), a userland tool to edit wedges and to synthesize defaults from
(machine/arch dependent) on-disk content is needed.
